Been Sew Long but I been surfing here Baby...Been Sew Long....

I cannot believe it's been over two months since I've posted.

In sewing news, a very good friend of mine is sending me a serger for my birthday. My birthday was 2 months ago but hey, I'm grateful. I am NOT complaining. I am not going to say which serger it is until I've actually used it and can post results. I am so STOKED...um EXCITED!!!! OVERJOYED....o.k., I imagine you get the picture. Have I sewn anything yet, no, but I did put down some shoe molding. Does that have anything to do with sewing?, (thinking real hard) ...um, no. I digress, I guess. I have to organize my sewing area....it's a mess.

Did I mention in an earlier post that I bought some burgundy (or is it maroon?....not sure) stretch knit fabric to make this fabulously stylish top ....It's New Look 6729 http://www.simplicity.com/assets/6729/6729.jpg

It's the version the model is wearing. Since I usually stick with basic colors, I chose the burgundy/maroon color which I think I'll enjoy better than the red the model is wearing. I can also see it in Navy Blue and perhaps a print pattern. I got the idea from Erica's B's blog where she was making a twist top. I wanted to do a top that was different, and stylish, and for me this top fits the bill.

I was reading in Sewl Sista #1's blog that she made her own "Duct Tape Dummy" pretty much by herself so I will try to do it so I can get this (sewing) party started .

O.k., enough. I need to go wash my hair. That has nothing to do with sewing either but still has to be done.

Sew Simple

http://milwaukee.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/stories/2007/07/02/daily14.html

Above is a link updating the fate of Simplicity.

In my world....
I have been trying to organize my sewing space. I have also been working on other projects (non-sewing related) around the house. It's sew simple to get caught up in other daily activities.

It's been sew long . . .

...well sorta. Since I last posted I have been surfing other blogs and viewing what others have made. I also attempted to organize my sewing area a wee bit. It's amazing the things you can find when you are organizing. I found a misplaced nightie I cut out a while back and I also cut out a pair of pajama bottoms to be sewn. I now have all my patterns in a toolbox and most of my notions in a plastic see-through box. I'm thinking of switching out the two plastic drawer units in my clothes closet (2 drawers in each) for the two that are in my sewing area(3 drawers in each).

I have many projects to do totally unconnected to sewing. The main thing I need to do is get organized (I know...don't we all.).

Sweatin' with a Yorkie . . .

O.k., so why did I make a little shirt for the dog(Yorkie)? I was watching t.v. and I got the idea from a show. They showed how to cut off the arm of an old sweater and shape it (with another cut) to fit the dog, complete with arm holes. The ribbed cuff goes at the dog's neck. (NOTE: This is for a small dog. Sorry you larger guys.) They made a sweater...I cut it too short but VOILA! it's a shirt.

Sewwwww....

I hope a good weekend was had by all. (is that even grammatically correct? lol) I finally ironed one of the batches of muslin I have and I bought more fabric. I thought I had a lot of fabric already but I have very little compared to some other blogs I've seen...I won't mention any names. (no really, no names) Anywho, perhaps today I will cut the pattern pieces out of the fabric for the dog.

Oh yeah, I bought my version of fabric weights from the dollar store: washers...you know those metal things that look like a donut but are flat. There's a bunch in the packet and they were only a dollar. I noticed on sewl sista #1's site her fabric weights look like washers to me.

I also picked up a book I wanted for my niece for Christmas (yep, starting early). The book is, "More Fabric Savvy". I want to find her a good sewing book...you know like, "where to start"..."I have a machine but what do I do now". I was going to get her "SewBasic" but they did not have it at the book store yesterday and I do not want to part with mine since I'm a beginner myself. That's it for now.

It's SEW me

O.k. I did absolutely nothing sewing related except read some sewing blogs this morning (hence the tarot card reading below). Today, I will make a more valiant effort to iron the muslin I already washed so I can cut out my pattern pieces for assembly and fitting.

You are The Hermit

Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.

The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.

The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I read some sewing blogs this morning and got this from: crazed sewer(see sidebar links). It's from one of her older posts...I went to the site and took the test and the above is my result.

My First BLog

I don't have a lot to say today...I just wanted to finally get started. So here I am starting my sewing blog with the hopes that I'll actually sew something soon.

I have sewn in a zipper on my machine and also a little curtain to cover the glass at the front door. Last week I cut out the pattern for a top for myself and a extra small dog raincoat, and extra small dog t-shirt. Yesterday, I traced the dog's raincoat pattern onto freezer paper (to preserve it). Today, hopefully, I will iron some muslin fabric and cut out all 3 patterns in the muslin then, sew the raincoat and fit it on the dog.

This is it for today. It's a start...I have to keep telling myself this. (lol) Every little bit helps even if it's just 15 minutes a day...it's 15 minutes further along you are in your project.
